Feel Better Your Way
TCM Acupuncture is an inherently versatile system of care. From what you wanted treated to how you want to get treated.
Acupuncture Treatment
Do you want an occasional treatment or to focus on the discomfort of the day? Neck pain one day, allergies another day, lower back pain the next. You decide. These are independent "one-and-done" treatments.
Acupuncture Therapy
Are you ready to commit to a series of treatments with specific measurable objectives? Treatments are given according to a structured plan determined at the end of the initial evaluation. SMART (Specific Measured Assignable Realistic Timed) objectives and goals are developed and agreed upon before treatment begins.
Striving for Success
Successful care depends on appropriate objectives and goals. SMART addresses the most common questions and concerns before beginning treatment. It is also part of a moralistic approach to care.
Specific- what exactly does the patient want?
Measured- what is the current status and what is the desired outcome?
Assignable- are the roles and responsibilities of the patient and clinician?
Realistic- are all Specific, Measured and Assignable even possible?
Timed- definitive conclusion to determine if the desired outcome has been achieved.
Dr. Howard teaches "SMART Notes for Patient Management" as an NCCAOM approved continuing education course at www.acupuncturescholar.com.
Evidence Based Medicine Approach to Care
Evidence based medicine (EBM) uses current respected research and clinical experience to provide effective care. This allow us to focus on what is best for the patient and what is reliably predictable. My Patient, My Teacher and the Four Gates.
Measurements are an important part (EBM). Before and after treatment measurements are performed where possible. Very often, measurable changes occur by the end of treatment.
Brightwaters Acupuncture uses the evidence based approach to contribute to the profession. Quality of care is emphasized as techniques and methods evolve and are published and taught to advance the profession and improve care.
