Manage Pain in Comfort

Comfort is  a priority when treating pain.  This begins before treatment.  Treatment is administered with the patient in the most comfortable position.  This allows patients to remain still for the duration of treatment.  â€‹The additional benefit is that relaxation reduces pain.

The beauty of acupuncture is variety of treatment options.  Sometimes, treating the affected area is impractical or impossible.  There is the Chinese acupuncture channel system allows for treatment far away from the pain,  the French ear system, Korean Hand Therapy (KHT) and the Chinese scalp acupuncture system to name a few.

An Ounce of Prevention

It is said that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".  Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with an evidence based medicine approach may help patients accomplish just that.  Distress reduction- which may include treatment- may enhance one's quality of life.

An often neglected reason to seek acupuncture care is improved health.  One may receive acupuncture to enhance immunity, calm the mind and aid meditation.  There are a few systems of acupuncture which focus on the more ethereal aspects of live and overlap with practices as yoga, tai chi and astral travel.

Insurances and Medicare

Insurances are accepted however there are some important caveats.

  • New York State Health Insurance (NYSHIP) out of network- 20 treatments per year.

  • No-fault- 12 rvu units per day (essentially 1 service per day)

  • Workers compensation- authorization and medical dr prescription

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield- in Network

  • Medicare covers acupuncture only if provided by an acupuncturist who is also a physician.  Medicare covers specific conditions for a limited number of treatments per year.  Only a Congressional act can make exclusively licensed acupuncturists Medicare providers.  If you want to help, then get involved with the American Society for Acupuncturists to make the change.
