What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is a part of Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of needles for therapeutic purposes.

Is acupuncture Chinese? Mostly. It's origins are from China but it includes French ear acupuncture. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is about 50% western science.

Is that the one with the needles? Yes. But not limited to needles. Non-needle modalities are available.

Are acupuncture points the same as trigger points? No. Acupuncture points are often located at trigger points but there are vastly more acupuncture points than trigger points on the body.​

Does acupuncture hurt? Probably not. It depends on the needle, insertion technique and style of acupuncture. Most patients typically report no sensation with needle insertion but some patients want painful treatment. Some patient feel tingling or floating.
How should I prepare for acupuncture?

What should I wear? Preferably loose fitting clothing to allow access to areas treated. Otherwise, the options are a wearing a gown or not treating the affected areas.

How long is a treatment? About an hour in the treatment room. This time excludes any consent forms, treatment forms, etc. This does not include time taken to change clothing. However, time is adjustable to the needs of the patient.​​

May I just walk in whenever I feel like it? No. Brightwaters Acupuncture works by appointment only. Patients are not "double booked" to ensure high quality care and full attention.

What do I do if I expect to arrive late? Contact as soon as possible. Time is a precious commodity, therefore clinicians are not obligated to wait unreasonably long for a tardy patient.
I saw your name on the medicare list. Why don't you take it?
Why is your name on the Medicare web site? Medicare has not updated their list of approved providers. Medicare approved acupuncturists have two licenses: an acupuncture license and a physician or similar license.
